No trumpets sound when the important decisions of our life are made. Destiny is made known silently.
Agnes De Mille

I am a 46 year old woman who has arthritis in my knees and my back. This causes me various degrees of discomfort and sometimes outright pain. Over the past several years I have lost the ability to do things I used to do – like squatting. My knees just hurt too much to get into a squat any longer. So I stopped squatting. I became concerned that there would be other things I would stop doing – stretching, walking, using all of my body – as I age.

Here is where Pilates, and specifically Studio P., have changed my life. At Studio P. I am gaining strength and flexibility every week. The impact on my daily life is noticeable. I get up and down stairs easier and quicker. I fit into my clothes a bit better. My back aches less. Yard work is easier and I don’t require ibuprofen the next day. My posture is better. I can actually touch my toes again.

At Studio P. I feel comfortable to be who I am. I don’t worry about my belly sticking out when I am doing abdominal work. I don’t feel in competition with anyone else. I don’t worry that I’m not wearing the right thing. I feel supported in accomplishing what I can do and being pushed beyond where I thought I could go. I am able to move my body in ways that would have been almost impossible six months ago. All because of Studio P.

The P in Studio P. is Patricia. She is amazing. She is encouraging, knowledgeable, inspiring, concerned and able to reduce my muscles to little twitches. Studio P. has created a community where all are welcome. A community committed to helping each person gain strength, tone and flexibility. A community that is fun and challenging. Patricia has created a place where “yet” is always the final word…as in “I can’t do that move, yet.” Patricia makes me believe I can and so I do.

An accident in 2005 left my lower back in constant pain. For over three years I required constant chiropractic adjustments – several times a week – just to get by. The pain never went away. In March 2008 I was facing the reality of back surgery, and the surgeon suggested that I give Pilates a try before I went that route. I didn’t frankly know what “a Pilate” was – well that was then.

I observed a class taught by Patricia LaRosa and figured I would give it a try.

The rest is history. My chiropractor hasn’t seen me in six months. My back is strong – my core is strong, and in healing my back I have also healed my spirit! Three years of chronic pain takes a toll on one’s spirit, but today I can do simple household tasks without being in pain; I can play tennis with my son and most importantly I know how to listen to my body.

Studio P. is a sanctuary – for mind, body and spirit.

Pilates is a gift to my body. As a young competitive swimmer, I developed strong, toned muscles. However, after retiring from the sport and having children my strength and muscle tone started to disappear. In early 2008 I started training for my first marathon and was looking for cross-training options that would build muscle without adding bulk, but would be easy on my joints. I found and quickly fell in love with Fletcher Pilates®!

I have been practicing Pilates since February 2008 and with each session I feel myself becoming stronger, more flexible and more aware of the muscles in my body. I think back to my first session and am in disbelief that I could not even touch my toes. Now I can bend over and put my hands flat on floor. Patricia LaRosa (Studio P. Pilates founder and instructor) will often say, “Your body is my business.” She puts this philosophy to practice. Patricia is able to gauge student’s abilities, adapt exercises appropriately and offers challenges when needed. Thanks to Pilates and Patricia’s instruction, I can see the changes in my body and am inspired to grow as a student!
